Vision Statement At Maryland Care & Early Education Centre we emphasise the family, the homeliness and the richness of our environment. We strive to provide a safe and stimulating, caring and challenging environment for every child to reach their full potential through child focused planned or unplanned experiences. We believe that the major influences in the learning and the education of each child are the individual’s parents, family, and educators as well as their environment.
Centre’s Focused At Maryland Care & Early Education Centre we clearly state “children always come first” ensuring our children receive high quality education and care at all times. We believe that interaction, sensitivity and attachment are fundamental elements in providing opportunities for children to realise their potential.
This potential is achieved by acknowledging:
·The Importance of Play in Early Childhood Development and Learning. As educators we advocate the value of play by watching, listening and talking with children and their families to gain a deeper understanding of each child. This assists us to plan environments and experiences that build on earlier successes and interests and helps determine how we can best support children in their discoveries.
·The Children
At Maryland Care and Early Education Centre we believe children are unique, competent, powerful and full of potential. We ensure each child has the opportunity to have a warm and caring relationship with caregivers. This is achieved by contact with a minimum number of different caregivers within the child’s program.
All physical needs of the children in terms of nutrition, hygiene, cleanliness, health and safety are provided. Children are encouraged to explore their environment and express themselves through using a variety of media such as music, movement, drawing, painting, building, sculpture, collage, dramatic play, nature, science and maths. Exposure to this media allows children to explore and discover what they know, what they wonder about and imagine, thereby making their thinking visible and fostering intellectual development.
·The Curriculum
Maryland Care and Early Education Centre embraces the Emergent Curriculum to plan and implement experience from interests and ideas of the children. This perspective is based on curiosity and what happens in the environment. It begins by observing the children within the environment, listening, recording ideas and then selecting from these observations topics that interest the children to plan further activities. This encourages children to have a sense of belonging, responsibility and ownership for their own learning, reflecting on all areas of development; physical, language, social, emotional, cognitive and creative.
