Children’s services are required to ensure children are provided with at least 50% of their recommended daily intake of nutrients, as directed by the NSW Department of Health.
Foods provided will be based on the food groups recommended by the Department of Health, including dairy foods, bread, cereals and pasta, meat and meat alternatives, fruit and vegetables. Menus will reflect children’s dietary needs, interests and the multicultural nature of our society and be based on the Nutrition Checklist for Long Day Care Menu Planning (NSW Health).
Children will be offered milk to drink twice daily. All dairy products for 0-2 year children will be full cream, 2-5 year children will have Lite white milk to drink recommended by DOCS Good For Kids program. Only soy drinks that are fortified with calcium will be used as a substitute to cows milk, when requested for special diets. Mothers who choose to breast feed will be encouraged to continue providing breast milk for their baby. Water will be available at all times. Children are allowed extra helpings of all courses. Children are encouraged to try all foods, but are not required or forced to eat. If children have not eaten their main meal, they will still be offered bread and dessert.
If you have any recipes you think the children would enjoy or any suggestions, please see our cook.
MENU SAMPLE:
Note: We encourage families to celebrate their child’s Birthday at the Centre, so you can provide either a plain sponge with no icing/frosting or an ice-cream cake that is less than 10 grams of fat per serving. This is recommended by the DOCS GOOD FOR KIDS PROGRAM providing appropriate dietary requirements and fostering healthy eating habits in young children.
