Family and Staff Interactions and Communications

- For staff to create a happy engaging atmosphere where both children and staff can interact in a warm and friendly way.
- For staff to encourage acceptable forms of behaviour by using strategies that build children’s esteem and confidence, i.e. To
use redirection and help children to understand and deal with feelings such as anger, frustration and jealousy.
- For staff to develop a knowledge and understanding of the communicative needs of families from non-English speaking
backgrounds. To initiate and engage children in both verbal and non-verbal communication, i.e. To use songs, rhymes and finger
plays and to seek support from community organizations and support services to ensure inclusion for all families.
- For staff to consult with parents and carers about the care of their children. This knowledge is to be reflected in the program and
care of the children. Staff and management consult with parents and carers in the development and review of Centre policies.
- To show respect and acceptance for all children and their families by providing experiences such as stories, books and events
that happen in everyday life to discuss and help break down stereotypes.
- To encourage children to be effective communicators and to respect and value the communications of others.
- For staff to acknowledge the need to provide information in different ways for our centre families, including non-English speaking,
  varying abilities and socio-economic diversity.
